April Stress Awareness Month and Month of Hope: Reduce Stress Daily

March 30, 20266 min read

April is National Stress Awareness Month and the National Month of Hope.

If you’re a solo entrepreneur—especially a helper (therapist, coach, consultant, wellness professional)—and you want to increase your impact and income, this pairing matters because stress doesn’t just make you tired. It quietly changes how you market, how you price, how you decide, and how consistently you show up.

Often, however, the problem is that when you don’t know what’s happening, it looks like a motivation problem. It isn’t. It’s a stress-awareness problem and stress isn’t you failing; it’s your signal.

For example if you’re blocking yourself from growth right now, it usually doesn’t feel like “I’m blocking myself.”

It feels like:

  • “I can’t get consistent.”

  • “I keep changing my plan.”

  • “I know what to do, but I’m not doing it.”

  • “I’m doing a lot, but my income isn’t moving.”

Trust me; that’s not laziness; it's often a nervous system that’s been running in the background on pressure, urgency, and self-protection for a very long time. Stress awareness is the skill of noticing that earlier so you can adjust without crashing in order to get your life back.

What “stress awareness” means in business

Please don't make stress awareness another self-care to-do list. It’s just the ability to catch stress before it hijacks your decisions. In business, stress awareness often looks like:

  • noticing when you’re about to overcomplicate something

  • noticing when you’re about to avoid outreaching

  • noticing when you’re about to drop your price out of fear

  • noticing when you’re about to disappear for a week because you feel behind

When you can spot the pattern early, you can choose a different move from a place of intention, allowing income growth to become possible because you consistently did what mattered instead of "doing more".

The 3 places stress shows up first

Most solo entrepreneurs try to solve stress at the level of strategy (including me for a long time). But stress shows up earlier than that. Here’s where I encourage my clients to look first.

1) Body signs - These are your earliest alerts because your body tells the truth before your brain admits it:

  • jaw clenching

  • shoulders creeping up

  • shallow breath

  • stomach tightness

  • sleep changes

  • headaches

2) Behavior signs or coping patterns. These are not character flaws; they are nervous system protection patterns:

  • rushing

  • doom-scrolling

  • procrastinating

  • snapping

  • isolating

  • “I’ll just push through”

3) Business signs...this is where stress becomes expensive and stress blocks impact and income:

  • overcomplicating your content

  • changing your plan midweek

  • tool-hopping

  • rewriting instead of publishing

  • avoiding follow-up

  • inconsistent marketing

The daily practice: a 3-minute Stress Awareness Reset

If you want to reduce stress on a daily basis, you need something you’ll actually do. We live in a fast paced world where we often can't find 45 minutes every day to settle and reset. This is a 3 minute reset I teach my clients. I encourage you to do it as often as possible throughout the day (100 times per day - no not really, but hey, if you do, think how quickly and effectively you'll notice and reduce stress)!

Step 1: Name it (10 seconds)

Pick one:

  • “I’m in rush mode.”

  • “I’m in freeze.”

  • “I’m in pressure.”

Naming it reduces the swirl.

Step 2: Locate it (20 seconds)

Say:

  • “It’s in my jaw.”

  • “It’s in my chest.”

  • “It’s in my stomach.”

You’re building awareness, not analyzing anything.

Step 3: Regulate (60 seconds)

Choose one. Keep it simple.

  • Longer exhale x 5 (inhale normally, exhale slower)

  • Feet press and orient (press your feet into the floor and name 5 things you see)

  • Drop shoulders and unclench tongue (soften your tongue in your mouth as you relax your jaw)

Don't make this a performance. It is meant to be a reset.

Step 4: Decide (30 seconds)

Ask one question:

  • “What’s the smallest next rep?”

  • “What can wait 24 hours?”

  • “What gets a B+ today?”

Then choose one action to take to move you closer to your goal.

How this reduces stress and increases income

When stress is running the show, you don’t just feel bad. You make predictable business moves that stall your growth such as avoiding visibility, avoiding follow-ups, underpricing yourself or overdelivering in a way that feels out of balance, or you keep your offer fuzzy because clarity feels risky (this last one was me for a very long time). Stress makes everything feel urgent. The problem is when everything is urgent, nothing gets finished.

The 3-minute reset above interrupts that by giving you enough space to do the next right thing and create consistency. Consistency builds trust. Trust builds income.

National Month of Hope

April is National Month of Hope and I love this month because most of us don’t need more inspiration. We need a plan our body believes in. Hope is not “It’ll all work out.” Hope is:

  • “I can take one step today.”

  • “I can keep one promise to myself.”

  • “I can build this without burning out.”

Here’s a hope prompt you can use all month: What’s one step I can take today that lowers my shoulders? This creates clarity and hope. If the step raises your shoulders, it’s not the step; make it smaller.

Your plan for this week: one rep and one reset

If you want more impact and income, here’s your plan. First, do not get on a new platform or create a 12-step funnel. Do this instead:

  • One rep: one visible business action (post, follow-up, outreach, offer mention)

  • One reset: the 3-minute Stress Awareness Reset

Examples:

  • one post and one reset

  • one follow-up and one reset

  • one pricing decision and one reset

You stop blocking yourself by building capacity, not forcing. Eventually you'll want to do more than one post; more than one follow up, but for now, it's getting the ball rolling. If you do more, excellent - as long as you can maintain soft shoulders and calm breathing throughout each rep.

If you want support

If you want a nervous-system-first plan to grow your impact and income without burning out, you don't need more pressure. You need structure, clear decisions, and a pace you can keep. That's exactly what the Expand without Burnout Mentorship is built for — using the C.L.A.R.I.T.Y. Process to help you build consistency from a regulated nervous system, not from force.

If you're not sure if it's the right fit, the FAQ page is a good place to start — it answers the questions I hear most.

Or if you're ready to talk, book a Freedom Jumpstart Call and we'll build your plan from there.

April is Stress Awareness Month. April is the Month of Hope. You can hold both. Start with three minutes.
